Later you say the two boxes are side by side, so the answer is: although
you might be able to do this, you don't have to. Just use a null modem
cable, at least assuming you're talking about a serial port on Win98,
and not a built-in modem.
The null modem cable can a regular modem cable and a null-modem adapter.
Or two modem cables interconnected by a null-modem adapter.
